Priya, you've audited over 200 Shopify stores. What's the SEO mistake that appears in almost all of them?
G

Priya Anand0:00

Ignoring collection pages. Founders obsess over product pages and blog posts and completely neglect the pages that rank for the highest-value commercial terms. 'Women's running shoes under $100', 'organic skincare for sensitive skin' — those are collection page queries. A well-optimized collection page beats a product page for those terms every time. Most Shopify stores have collection pages with a default title and no description.

Explain the /products/ URL duplicate content issue. This trips up a lot of developers.
G

Priya Anand9:30

Shopify creates two URLs for every product. `/products/your-product-handle` and `/collections/your-collection/products/your-product-handle`. They serve identical content. Google sees two pages competing for the same keywords, diluting link equity, and sometimes canonicalizing to the wrong one. Shopify does set a canonical on the collection-filtered URL pointing to the clean `/products/` URL — but if any of your backlinks or internal links point to the `/collections/` version, you're splitting authority. The fix is to audit your internal links and external link profile and make sure you're consistently linking to the canonical URL.

What does your data show about AI-generated product descriptions and SEO performance in 2026?
G

Priya Anand44:00

Mixed. Stores that use AI to generate descriptions at scale and don't review them consistently underperform. Google can detect the patterns and the thin content signal is real. But stores that use AI as a starting point, then have someone with product knowledge edit and add unique details — manufacturer relationships, specific use cases, customer FAQs — those perform on par with hand-written descriptions. The signal Google penalizes is 'generated at scale without human review', not 'touched by AI'.
